About NACLE
The North American Consortium on Legal Education (NACLE) comprises 12 participating law schools in Canada, Mexico and the United States. Our consortium offers law students the opportunity to participate in in semester long exchanges at our member universities. Additionally, NACLE holds an annual student paper competition, with student winners receiving travel grants to attend our annual NACLE conference with all expenses paid. Students then present their papers for faculty and student criticism at open sessions at our annual conference, and they have the chance to meet and interact with many respected members of the legal community. NACLE conferences also bring together law professors from Canada, Mexico and the United States, to discuss common interests and approaches to legal issues.
NACLE was created in 1998, with grant support from the Canadian, Mexican and U.S. governments. NACLE’s valuable programs allow future lawyers from Canada, Mexico and the United States to interact. As our newspapers will confirm each day, the need for increased understanding of legal and social issues in North America transcends national boundaries, and today more than ever we must commit ourselves to comparative understanding of the legal systems of our neighbors. We strongly believe that programs like NACLE can prevent future misunderstandings and legal problems that could be avoided by increased understanding of neighboring legal systems.
