Prof. Vaughan Black's new book "Foreign Currency Claims in the Conflict of Laws"

Professor Vaughan Black, of the Dalhousie University Schulich School of Law, has a book coming out soon with Hart Publishing  (May 2010) which is entitled "Foreign Currency Claims in the Conflict of Laws". This book "takes a comparative look at how common law courts have addressed damages claims when foreign currencies are involved, and at statutory responses to that issue. It describes the practices of UK, Commonwealth and American courts in this field and draws both on principles of private international law and of damages assessment to analyse current practice".

In February, 2010 the Irwin Law company will publish "International and Transnational Criminal Law," a text written by Professor Rob Currie of the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University, Halifax.

In the book, Professor Currie provides a comprehensive overview of these two related but increasingly distinct fields: international criminal law (genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, the International Criminal Court) and transnational criminal law (terrorism, money laundering, organized crime, human trafficking, cybercrime). He also examines the major mechanisms of inter-state criminal cooperation, extradition and mutual legal assistance, as well as troubling issues like extraordinary rendition and the interface of human rights standards with inter-state and extraterritorial activities.

"International and Transnational Criminal Law" is designed to be both a resource for practitioners and scholars and a text from which the subject matter can be taught in law schools. A link to the publisher's website listing for the book can be found here.

Prof. Gantz at the University of Arizona will teach a short course at the University of Ottawa

Professor David A. Gantz, Samuel M. Fegtly Professor of Law, Director of the International Trade Law Program, and Associate Director of the National Law Center for Inter-American Free Trade, at the The University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, will be heading up to the University of Ottawa in January 2011 to teach a short course based on his new book "Trade Remedies in North America" (written with several others, to be published in April 2010).

Prof. Gantz was attracted to teaching in Ottawa-despite the very cold January weather-for several reasons. First, Ottawa is a fine law school, hosting several of the leading trade and business law faculty in North America, Donald McCrae, Debra Steger and Tony Van Duzer. Secondly, an opportunity to focus an intensive course on trade remedies specific to our continent to University of Ottawa JD and LLM students. Finally, Ottawa is a wonderful city, and as always, a great place to visit. SSRN page of Prof. Gantz.
